To increase collaboration this year, my blog will be updated via Edmodo. Thanks & see you on Edmodo! :)
Good afternoon! If you have brought back the two required documents with parent signatures (to homeroom) you received your locker today.
You will get your syllabus and Edmodo sign up information tomorrow.
There is no homework tonight. See you tomorrow!
Lockers will be issued tomorrow morning for students who have brought back their Receipt of Parent Information and Edmodo forms.
I will be distributing Edmodo information to sign up for our class later this week. Once Edmodo is up and running, I will not be updating this blog.
There is no homework tonight except to get your supplies. See the previous post for details.
Your syllabus is forthcoming. I will distribute it on Wednesday.
Homeroom Students: If any parents would like to come in to help with lockers tomorrow morning, I would welcome the help. Please e-mail me to let me know you are coming. You would need to arrive at 8:50 and be finished by about 9:30. (firstname.lastname@example.org). Thanks!
Please see the main page of the blog for detailed information about supplies for class. 1) COLLEGE-RULED, heavy duty spiral (min. 3 subject - 150 pages) like a Mead 5 Star, 2) Composition Book, 3) Glue sticks 4) General supplies need for class like pen or pencil, etc.
Homework: 1) Compete your puzzle piece tonight. Follow the directions on the sticker. The arrow is lightly written in pencil on the side you are to write on.2) Bring completed SS Interest Inventory and "All About You" tomorrow.
You survived your first day of middle school!
Until we get Edmodo up and running for your classes, I will be updating this blog regularly. You will take home a letter tomorrow about Edmodo and all of the advantages it has over a traditional blog.
We did a variety of activities today including Canned Soup Economics Intros, mini-time capsules, painting the BIG PICTURE, and finally a sticky note "doing" shirt.
Don't worry about having your supplies until next week (after the sales tax holiday this weekend). We will go over what you need in class tomorrow.
Homework: By Friday complete your "Social Studies Interest Inventory" (both sides) & your "All About You" sheet. A parent signature is required on the "All About You' sheet.
If possible, please submit this via Edmodo. If that isn't possible, you may turn in a written copy. Thanks!
After reading the article on Yunel Escobar & other baseball players in the "Sporting News" write two short paragraphs responding to the following:
1) What does this tell you about life in Cuba (especially related to economics & government)?
2) What was the most intriguing part of the article to you? Why?
I will be putting some review resources & games here for your "reviewing enjoyment" in your spare time over Spring Break '13! If the links don't work, just paste them into your browser. I'm not sure why that is happening.

Essential Question: Do you know what is special about this Saturday, 26 January?
Essential Answer: It is AUSTRALIA DAY, mate!
Tomorrow is 26 January 2013, Australia Day. Celebrated in a manner similar to our 4th of July, it is the day celebrating the discovery of Australia. To celebrate such a momentous occasion, we will be spending next week exploring and learning about Australian culture, geography and history.
To start the week off, we will be celebrating Australia Day Monday during class. To help celebrate, for Monday we are asking everyone to wear red, white and blue (the colors of the Australian flag) OR green and gold (Australia’s official colors). If you wear these colors on Monday, and check in with Ms. Cape at the end of the hallway before homeroom, you will be allowed to start Aussie talkin! You will be given a list of Aussie words and phrases (Aussie slang...) along with a sticker to show that you are allowed to use the words. You are welcome to look at and practice the words during homeroom, in the halls, during lunch, etc. but not during instructional time.
Please note that red, white, & blue for Australia Day does NOT include USA flag shirts. This is red, white, & blue as in the colors on the Australian flag.
Get ready to learn Aussie style! :-)
Please check Edmodo for daily class updates.
